Chegutu was known as Hartley, named after Henry Hartley who founded Hartley Mine after discovering gold on the banks of the Umfuli River. Chegutu is in Zimbabwe’s Mashonaland West Province and is known for its vast farming and mining industries. The signature red soil is known to produce the finest vegetables all year round. Stop over in Chegutu on your way to Gweru or Bulawayo, check out one of it’s few restaurants and maybe grab a drink with the residents who are always ready for a chat.
