Also in Bulawayo

KoBulawayo in Ndebele means ‘place where he is being killed’, and though this may be the name of the city, no one is dying in Bulawayo. Beautiful and tranquil, relaxed and well maintained, Bulawayo is a delight to the eyes. The second largest city in Zimbabwe after Harare is also commonly known as the ‘City of Kings’ in reference to King Mzilikazi who founded the Ndebele kingdom. Bulawayo is well known for it’s beautifully laid out city streets which are wide and lined with trees, as well as it’s rich historical look and feel, which it has maintained since it was colonized.

Though Bulawayo (Blues as referred by locals) is relaxed and slower paced than Harare, there is still plenty to do and see, whether you are an outdoor or indoor explorer- there are many museums and natural outdoor excursions for those who want to go for the day, or those who would like to stay a little longer. If you are a keen night- time, city explorer, there are also many night -spots to entertain a wide variety of audiences from quaint restaurants in back yards, to adult entertainment, Bulawayo has something for everyone.

Fun fact: The streets of Bulawayo are as wide as they are because Cecil John Rhodes decreed that they be wide enough for a cart drawn by 16 oxen be able to make a full turn.
