Beast Retires

MtawariraAt Wonderful Zimbabwe we love chool boy rugby! Be it the COTTCO Cup or CRAVEN Week, nothing beats the thunderous roars of school war cries and the smell of freshly cut turf. These memories this past weekend came flooding back as we watched the most physical player in world rugby dominate in prop(per) fashion!

We have watched in absolute awe and with unquestionable pride as Tendai Beast Mtawarira powered his way from high school rugby, provincial representation and owned his position with the Sharks. Watching him walk onto international fields in South African national colours has been like watching a sibling carry our name and hopes with him. Truly ours, a Springbok legend a World Cup Rugby Champion.

Beast is synonymous with monstrous displays of superhuman strength. Who could forget the repeated displays, holding up team mates 100kg plus above his head after making blind catches. He’s a gentle giant though, as demonstrated this week when the Boks returned victorious from the 2019 Rugby World Cup. He’s gone viral walking next to a Granny battling to keep up, trying to take a selfie next to his towering frame, he stopped, took the phone and posed for a pic #NewProfilePic?

Tendai this week announced his retirement from the game. We are heavy hearted at the announcement but recognise Beast has selflessly given us his all. To the Mtawarira family, his wife and children we say thank you for giving us the privilege of experiencing Tendai. We cannot wait to see what your future holds! BEEEEEAAAST!!!!
